"M" Khorns
Klipsch Klipschorns Restored by Greg Roberts

These speakers have been sold for $4,000 U.S. plus the mechanical upgrades.

This is the small webpage for these speakers.   Links to the very in-depth webpages detailing this project from start to finish are at the bottom of this page.

The "M" is from the serial number indicating that they were built in 1974.  The model is K-C-FR which means they came from the factory finished with Fir veneer, a "C" model cabinet without the riser between the top horn and the bass bin, and without any finish (raw).

They were in pretty rough shape when I got them.

These speakers got a complete restoration which included new rosewood veneer, completely finishing the backs, a change to black grill cloth, a change to the "B" Style cabinet, and many component upgrades.  Many more restoration photos are available in the in-depth pages, but here's a few to give you an idea.

These speakers were sold with the original midrange horns, midrange drivers, and tweeters that came with them.  In addition, they included a pair of Bob Crites replacement "A" crossovers, a pair of Bob Crites replacement cast-frame woofers, ALK ES networks, ALK grill frames, cloth, and Trachorns, and Beyma CP-25 tweeters.  The new owner chose all of these upgrades.  I insisted that he also have the original pieces so he could listen to them basically stock too.

In-depth analysis of the sound produced by these upgrades is on Page 6 below.

The restoration went extremely well, the best I've produced so far.   The veneering was made much easier with the use of paper-backed veneer and Heatlock glue.  This is the best combination I've used so far in my veneering adventures.  The process went smoothly and the results were predictable.

This is the nicest looking pair of speakers that's come out of my shop yet.   Here are the glamour shots!

Here's a few pictures of the crating process.  These are going to be shipped to Moscow, Russia.  I figure they should be crated really well since I have no idea what might happen to these between Benton, Maine and Moscow, Russia.  It could be interesting.
