Other Information:
We build up to 1-1/2 hours driving distance from our shop in Benton.
Generally, it takes about 6 months to complete a home from the time we begin the excavation work. Larger or more complex homes may take longer.
We require a down payment when signing contracts; usually at least $10,000.
If you're working with a bank, it is likely that they will require that you also purchase some kind of property insurance during the construction phase, even though we provide a "Builders Risk" policy on your project.
Even though we provide design services, we are happy to work with your architect or designer. If you're hiring an architect, keep in mind that they often have different ways of charging for their services. Make sure you have a clear understanding of the charges before you enter into an agreement for architectural design services. Many architects will agree to a fixed-rate service, and this may be a good way to go. Although probably more expensive than what we charge for design services, if you can afford it, I feel that the services of a good architect are usually worth more than they charge for their design expertise.
Under certain circumstances, I do allow my customers to do some of the work on their home themselves during my contract period.
In addition to building complete custom homes, we sometimes provide contracting services for partially completed homes, additions, our unique heated slab foundations, heat-recovery ventilation systems, and radiant floor heating systems.
Greg is HRAI certified to install heat-recovery ventilation systems, is licensed by the State of Maine to install L.P. Gas-fired heating systems and appliances, is certified to install Uponor PEX plumbing systems, is a registered R-2000 home-builder and completed the first R-2000 home in the United States in 1996 in Hamden, Maine, is a member of the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council, pioneered the use of radiant floor heating and monolithic insulated slab foundations in Maine, has built a completely off-grid solar home as well as a zero-emissions home that heats with a ground-source heat pump, and has 23 years of experience as a general contractor/designer/builder building super-insulated homes in Maine.
Greg could not do his job without the support of his wife of 29 years, Laurie.
Laurie is here in the office most of the week, except when she's out running errands for
the business. Her duties include payroll, tracking costs, insurances,
communication with customers, scheduling, billing, accounts receivable, accounts
payable, managing the books, ordering, truck maintenance, inventory, mail, and a whole
lot more.
Greg could not continue to operate this business without his lead foreman, Derek Foster. Derek's the one who really keeps everything on track at our jobsites. He's likely the person you will see every day at your project, working hard to maintain the high standards that we've put in place over the years. He's very good with our customers, he makes sure our jobs are done on time, and he knows as much about building quality homes as I do.
